
Dr. Ann Fradkin-Hayslip, Ed.D., is an associate professor in the Elementary Education and Reading Department at State University of New York at Oneonta. Fradkin-Hayslip’s background in education is informed by firsthand experience in alternative and progressive learning environments. She is a graduate of the first public alternative high school and Hampshire College, both non-graded systems, and holds a doctorate in educational leadership from University of Florida, where her dissertation focused on teacher autonomy and compared educational practices in the United States and Finland. She also holds a bachelor's degree in juvenile justice from Hampshire College. Prior to her current role, Fradkin-Hayslip served as an assistant professor at St. Bonaventure University.
Fradkin-Hayslip has nearly 30 years of experience in preschool and elementary school classrooms, teaching various grades in public, private, and federally funded programs across urban, rural, and suburban settings, including Title I schools. She has also taught at the college level in early childhood, elementary, and graduate literacy programs, and has served on multiple committees and panels. This extensive experience across diverse educational contexts informs her perspective on the challenges and opportunities in K-12 education.
Fradkin-Hayslip’s peer-reviewed publications address teacher autonomy, motivation, job satisfaction, asset-based teaching, and school culture, and have appeared in national and international journals. She is the author of "Process Learning: It's Not About the Product, It's About the Journey." Her research includes international fieldwork, such as leading student groups to visit schools in Finland.
