Angie Thomas

Angie Thomas, an eminent author, made her debut with the critically acclaimed novel "The Hate U Give," which tackles issues of police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement. This novel not only topped the New York Times bestseller list but also earned her the Boston Globe–Horn Book Award and the Goodreads Choice Awards for Young Adult Fiction. The success of "The Hate U Give" culminated in a film adaptation in 2018. Her subsequent novels, "On the Come Up" and "Concrete Rose," the latter being a prequel to her debut novel, also secured spots on the New York Times bestseller list, demonstrating her continued engagement with themes of social justice and the African American community.

In addition to her standalone novels, Thomas has ventured into series writing, authoring the middle school novels "Nic Blake and the Remarkables," with the latest installment released in 2025. Her co-authored work "Blackout" also gained attention, spotlighting Black teen love amidst a New York City power outage. Printz Award, Audie Award for Young Adult, Waterstones Children's Book Prize, William C. Morris Award, and the Odyssey Award in 2018. Her novels have made several 'best of the year' lists across various platforms, and her audiobook adaptations have been critically acclaimed. In recognition of her impact, Thomas was shortlisted for the 2018 CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals, a finalist in the 2021 Cybils Awards, and a winner of the American Library Association's 2022 Youth Media Award. Her works also received nominations for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature and the Carnegie Medal, and were longlisted for the Yoto Carnegie Greenaway Awards in 2022.
