Andy Stern

Andy Stern is a labor leader, author, and public intellectual focused on the future of work, economic inequality, and universal basic income. He is president emeritus of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and serves as a senior fellow at the Economic Security Project, where he advocates for policies addressing the impact of technology and automation on workers. Stern has been a leading voice in national conversations around guaranteed income, contributing to discussions that influenced the Child Tax Credit expansion, local guaranteed income programs, and broader economic recovery initiatives.

During his tenure as SEIU president, Stern grew the union by 1.2 million members and helped lead efforts supporting passage of the Affordable Care Act. He also led SEIU out of the AFL-CIO and co-founded the Change to Win labor federation, reshaping the modern labor movement. Modern Healthcare named Stern among the most powerful figures in healthcare reform.

Following his retirement from SEIU, Stern held senior fellow positions at Columbia University and Georgetown University and served on numerous policy and nonprofit boards.
