
Andy García is a Cuban American actor, director, producer, and musician whose career spans more than four decades and includes a range of roles in film, television, and music. Born Andrés Arturo García Menéndez, García first gained recognition for his performance in Brian De Palma's "The Untouchables" alongside Kevin Costner, Sean Connery, and Robert De Niro. This role established García as a prominent figure in Hollywood and led to further opportunities in major motion pictures.
García co-starred in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather Part III" as Vincent Mancini, earning a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and becoming the first Cuban actor to receive an Oscar nomination. Throughout the 1990s, García appeared in films such as Stephen Frears' "Hero," the romantic drama "When a Man Loves a Woman," and the action thriller "Desperate Measures."
He produced and acted in the HBO television film "For Love or Country: The Arturo Sandoval Story," which earned him nominations for both the Primetime Emmy Award and the Golden Globe Award. García also delivered a notable performance as Terry Benedict in Steven Soderbergh's "Ocean's Eleven," and reprised the role in "Ocean's Twelve" and "Ocean's Thirteen."
In addition to his acting career, García has worked as a filmmaker and musician, often drawing on his Cuban heritage. He formed CineSon Productions and made his directorial debut with the documentary concert film "Cachao … Como Su Ritmo No Hay Dos." García directed and starred in "The Lost City," which received two Imagine Awards for Best Director and Best Film, as well as a nomination for the Alma Award for Best Director. He won both a Grammy and a Latin Grammy Award for producing Cuban musician Cachao's album "¡Ahora Sí!" García also leads his own 13-piece Classic Cuban Orchestra, The CineSon All Stars.
García's later work includes roles in "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again," "Book Club," "The Mule," the HBO film "My Dinner with Hervé," and the title role in the "Father of the Bride" remake. He is the writer, director, and star of the noir film "Diamond," which is set to premiere out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival. He has been recognized with the Harvard University Foundation Award for contributions to the American performing arts and intercultural relations, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Hispanic Heritage Award for the Arts. García's career reflects a commitment to film, television, and music, with a focus on projects that highlight his cultural background and artistic vision.
