Andrew Dawson

Andrew Dawson is a theatre director, performer, and movement specialist known for his contributions to the performing arts. Trained in dance with Merce Cunningham in New York and theater in Paris under Philippe Gaulier, Monika Pagneux, and Jacques Lecoq, Dawson has established a career characterized by creative versatility and a focus on physical expression. He co-founded the Mime Theatre Project, gaining international recognition with productions such as "Thunderbirds F.A.B." and later developed and performed solo works including "Space Panorama," a retelling of the Apollo 11 moon landing using only his hands, and the award-winning "Absence and Presence."

Dawson’s directorial and choreographic work includes collaborations with institutions such as English National Opera, Metropolitan Opera in New York, and The Young Vic. His stage direction credits include the adaptation of "Wallace and Gromit," the award-winning "Pandora 88," and "The Idiot Colony." He made his choreographic debut with John Adams’ opera "Dr. Atomic" and later choreographed "The Pearl Fishers." Dawson’s interdisciplinary projects include "The Process of Portrayal," which explores neurological impairment, and "The Articulate Hand," which premiered at the World Science Festival and was featured at TEDMED, highlighting his ability to bridge science and art through physical theatre and storytelling.

A certified Feldenkrais practitioner and Hatha yoga teacher, Dawson integrates movement and mindfulness into his creative process and public speaking. He communicates ideas about the body, perception, and creativity to audiences at international festivals, scientific conferences, and cultural events. Dawson’s career reflects a commitment to exploring the boundaries of performance, addressing complex subjects, and engaging audiences in the fields of theater, movement, and interdisciplinary arts.
