Andre Norman

Andre Norman is a transformational speaker, prison reform expert, and author known as the Ambassador of Hope. Through presentations and his personal journey of overturning an over 105-year prison sentence to becoming a Harvard Fellow, Norman empowers audiences to overcome obstacles, navigate change, and pursue personal development.

Growing up in Boston, Norman faced poverty and illiteracy. After leaving behind his dream of being a trumpet player, he became involved in street life, which led to a sentence of more than 100 years in prison. In his first six years, Norman immersed himself in prison culture, gaining status within the system and ultimately being placed in solitary confinement for two years.

While in solitary confinement, Norman experienced a turning point, realizing he needed to change his life. With a slim chance of success, he developed a plan to attend Harvard and build a new future. Over the next eight years, he dedicated himself to self-education, studying law, and participating in personal development and anger management groups. Norman was eventually granted parole and released after serving 14 years.

Shortly after his release, Norman delivered his first speech to young men in juvenile detention, sharing principles of accountability, mentorship, integrity, and leadership. After 14 years in the Massachusetts prison system, Norman discovered his purpose, appealed his sentence, and was granted parole. His work as the Ambassador of Hope contributed to ending protests in Ferguson, Missouri, and earned him a fellowship at Harvard University.

Norman's involvement in St. Louis became the subject of the PBS documentary "Saving St. Louis," which highlights his efforts to unite business leaders, political leaders, educators, and gang leaders to improve conditions for children in the region. He also designed a program and mentored inmates in the same prison system where he was once incarcerated.

Norman authored the book "The Ambassador of Hope: Turning Poverty and Prison Into a Purpose-Driven Life." He founded the Academy of Hope, a program aimed at reducing institutional violence in prisons through intervention and positive engagement for inmates and staff. Norman is also the founder of Second Chance University, which provides access and inspiration for individuals seeking personal growth. These programs focus on leadership training, personal development, and effective reentry strategies to reduce recidivism and strengthen communities.

Norman serves as a consultant and advisor on diversity, inclusion, and leadership, delivering keynote speeches such as "BREAKING THE BARS: TURN YOUR PRISON INTO A PURPOSE-DRIVEN LIFE" at international conferences and collaborating with organizations including the United Nations and the Young Presidents Organization. His recovery and reform efforts have impacted regions such as Honduras, the Bahamas, Sweden, Botswana, Liberia, and Trinidad. Norman has lectured at TEDx events, Harvard University, and London Business School, and his strategies for addressing gang activity and inmate manipulation have improved correctional systems across the United States.
