Amy Compton-Phillips

Dr. Amy Compton-Phillips is a physician, healthcare executive, and innovator with a career spanning more than three decades in clinical practice and health system leadership. Compton-Phillips holds a bachelor's degree from Johns Hopkins University and a medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She is a board-certified internist with interests in healthcare innovation and wellness. Her professional path, from frontline clinician to C-suite executive, demonstrates a commitment to transforming healthcare delivery at scale.

Before joining Providence, Compton-Phillips spent 22 years at Kaiser Permanente, beginning as a front-line internist and advancing to chief quality officer. In this role, she focused on improving healthcare value and led initiatives to implement innovation across the Kaiser Permanente system. She played a key role in developing patient-driven design, enhancing clinical outcomes, improving the care experience, and addressing care affordability.

Compton-Phillips later served as president of clinical care at Providence, overseeing clinical operations and care delivery for the system's hospitals, clinics, and caregivers. She led Providence's response to the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the United States and was featured in PBS Frontline's documentary "Coronavirus Pandemic" for her leadership during this period. Compton-Phillips was instrumental in Providence's adoption and scaling of telehealth, data analytics, and artificial intelligence solutions, which were critical to the health system's pandemic response and ongoing healthcare innovation.

An active speaker on data use in healthcare, Compton-Phillips has contributed to New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst and served as a CNN medical analyst. Compton-Phillips has also served as president and chief physician executive at Press Ganey, guiding provider organizations and health plans through clinical transformation. She is currently executive vice president and chief medical officer at CVS Health, where she leads clinical strategy and medical affairs, focusing on high-quality, accessible care and improved health outcomes across the CVS Health enterprise. In this role, she oversees the chief medical officers of Aetna, Caremark, Minute Clinic, and healthcare delivery, as well as leaders in quality, women's health and genomics, and psychiatry. Compton-Phillips continues to be a leading voice in American healthcare, driving systemic change and innovation.
