Ali Tamaseb

Ali Tamaseb is a general partner at DCVC (Data Collective), a deep-tech venture capital firm in Silicon Valley. Before joining DCVC, Tamaseb was a startup founder and CEO, growing his company to millions in revenue. He holds a degree in biomedical engineering from Imperial College London and studied general management at Stanford Graduate School of Business. Tamaseb has been granted four patents and has won medals in national and international physics and programming Olympiads. His multidisciplinary background in science, entrepreneurship, and finance informs his data-driven approach to venture investing.

Tamaseb holds multiple leadership and board director positions at companies across the United States and globally, with thousands of employees. He has invested in several billion-dollar companies on behalf of DCVC in industries including crypto, fintech, healthcare, biomedical technology, materials, chemicals, electrification, mining, and construction. At DCVC, Tamaseb focuses on areas such as computational health, biotechnology, cybersecurity, and life sciences, seeking early-stage, highly technical companies in synthetic biology, disruptive healthcare models, financial technologies in healthcare, and health insurance.

Tamaseb is the author of two books, including the best-selling "Super Founders," which examines the factors that differentiate billion-dollar startups. He has also authored five academic papers on machine learning and artificial intelligence. For "Super Founders," Tamaseb compiled a large dataset on startups, comparing billion-dollar companies with those that did not reach that scale, analyzing 30,000 data points across various factors. The book features interviews with founders and investors from companies such as Zoom, Instacart, PayPal, Nest, GitHub, Flatiron Health, Kite Pharma, Facebook, Stripe, Airbnb, YouTube, LinkedIn, Lyft, DoorDash, Coinbase, and Square, as well as stories about the early days of ByteDance (TikTok), WhatsApp, Dropbox, Discord, and SpaceX.
