Ali Greene

Ali Greene is a remote work leader, advocate, author, and consultant with more than a decade of experience helping individuals and organizations reimagine how and where work is accomplished. Greene has worked remotely since 2014 and previously served as director of people operations for DuckDuckGo and as head of culture and community at Oyster, where she hosted the "Distributed Discussions" podcast. At DuckDuckGo, she gained hands-on experience growing a fully distributed team from 30 to nearly 100 employees over four years. Greene's career spans big tech, startups, creative agencies, and management consulting, providing her with a broad perspective on distributed workforce management and organizational culture.

A digital nomad who has traveled full-time since 2017, Greene has visited more than 40 countries, often managing complex people operations remotely. She has launched health benefits for U.S.-based employees while in Japan and planned company retreats while traveling through Mexico and Brazil. Her lived experience informs her expertise in distributed work, offering practical insights into the realities of remote team management, digital nomadism, and cross-cultural collaboration. Greene is candid about the challenges and benefits of the nomadic lifestyle, addressing issues such as culture shock, language barriers, unreliable WiFi, and isolation.

Drawing on her experience at remote companies DuckDuckGo and Automattic, as well as interviews with industry experts, Greene co-authored "Remote Works: Managing for Freedom, Flexibility, and Focus" with Tamara Sanderson. The book provides guidance for managers on designing positive, flexible virtual work cultures and is published by Berrett-Koehler and distributed internationally through Penguin Random House. "Remote Works" has been recognized by leaders in organizational behavior and remote work.
