Alezandra Russell Biography
Born to Argentine and Peruvian parents and raised in the United States, Alezandra Russell is a first-generation American, activist, and founder who has spent over 20 years at the intersection of human rights, cultural identity, and systems change.
In 2009, Russell stood in a red light district in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and saw something most of the world had been trained not to see: boys. Exploited, invisible, and entirely underserved by the very movement supposed to protect them. She flew home, sold her engagement and wedding rings, and built Urban Light — one of the first organizations in the world dedicated exclusively to boy survivors of trafficking and exploitation. Urban Light has since served over 17,000 boys and young men in Northern Thailand.
In 2018, Russell was forced to flee Thailand after government retaliation for her advocacy work. She kept going anyway.
A Mother Teresa Humanitarian Award recipient and Telemundo "Unstoppable Woman,"" Russell speaks English and Spanish and is currently finishing a book on generational trauma and positive parenting for first-gen Latinx families.
