Alex Freeman

Alex Freeman is a professional soccer player who plays as a right-back or right winger for La Liga club Villarreal and the United States men's national team. Freeman began his youth soccer career with Weston FC before joining the Orlando City academy. He signed with Major League Soccer franchise Orlando City and spent the initial seasons of his professional career primarily with Orlando City B in MLS Next Pro, where he led the team in assists and total goal contributions during his final season.

Freeman advanced to Orlando City's first team, where he recorded nine goal contributions in a standout Major League Soccer season. His performances earned him selections to the MLS All-Star team and the MLS Best XI, as well as the MLS Young Player of the Year Award. He contributed to Orlando City's victory in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and helped the Orlando City Academy secure the MLS Next Cup U17 Championship. Freeman later transferred to Villarreal for a club-record transfer fee for a homegrown player.

Freeman made his United States men's national team debut in a friendly against Türkiye in Columbus, starting at right back. He represented the United States at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, becoming the youngest player to make six consecutive appearances for the national team in the tournament as the United States finished as runners-up. Freeman scored a two-goal brace against Uruguay in a 5-1 friendly win and finished the year with 13 national team caps, earning a nomination for the U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year Award.

Freeman is recognized for his attacking contributions from defense, versatility, and two-way ability. In a World Cup opener at SoFi Stadium, he started at right back, provided an assist, won nine duels, and made two interceptions as the United States defeated Paraguay 4-1. Across 51 appearances for Orlando City, Freeman recorded 178 duels won, 59 aerial duels won, 88 clearances, and 27 interceptions. At age 21, Freeman's athleticism, defensive skills, and attacking instinct have established him as a prominent figure in American soccer and international football.
