Alberto Gonzales

Alberto R. Gonzales is a prominent figure in American law and government, recognized for his service at the highest levels of public office. Gonzales earned a bachelor's degree from Rice University and a law degree from Harvard Law School. He served in the U.S. Air Force and attended the U.S. Air Force Academy before beginning his legal career. Gonzales practiced law at Vinson & Elkins in Houston, where he became a partner, and taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center.

Gonzales entered public service as general counsel to Texas Governor George W. Bush, later serving as Secretary of State of Texas and as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Texas. He was appointed White House Counsel, where he addressed legal issues related to national security and detainee treatment following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Gonzales became the 80th Attorney General of the United States, the first Hispanic to hold the position, and remains the only individual to have served as both White House Counsel and U.S. Attorney General.

After his government service, Gonzales joined Belmont University College of Law, where he was named to the Doyle Rogers Distinguished Chair of Law and later became dean. He co-authored "A Conservative and Compassionate Approach to Immigration Reform," published by Texas Tech University Press, and wrote the memoir "True Faith and Allegiance," which details his personal and professional journey, focusing on legal ethics, public service, and constitutional law.

Gonzales has received several honors, including the Harvard Law School Association Award, the Central Intelligence Agency Director's Award, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service. He has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus of Rice University and inducted into the Hispanic Scholarship Fund Alumni Hall of Fame. His contributions have also been acknowledged by HISPANIC Magazine and TIME Magazine.

Gonzales serves as an independent director for Point72, a global alternative investment fund, and is a member of the Council on Criminal Justice, the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions, the Commission for Uniform Legislation, and the American Law Institute. He has served as Board Chair of United Way of Greater Nashville. Gonzales is known for his expertise in law, national security, leadership, and public policy, drawing on experience from both state and federal government roles.
