Adam Lane

Adam Lane is the principal of Haines City High School in Polk County, Florida, where he has developed a nationally recognized model for school culture, student achievement, and staff retention. Lane has worked in K-12 public education since 1995, holding positions across high, middle, and elementary schools, including teacher, department head, athletic coach, athletic trainer, assistant principal, and principal.

Before joining Haines City High School, Lane developed and implemented the Largo International Baccalaureate Program, overseeing all aspects such as hiring and training instructional staff, promoting the program, and recruiting a diverse student body. He was also part of an administrative team that improved a consecutive D-rated school to an A-rated school within a two-year period.

Upon taking the helm at Haines City High School, Lane addressed significant challenges, including low graduation rates, poor student test scores, excessive discipline problems, and low teacher retention. Drawing on his specialist's degree in turnaround leadership from the University of South Florida, Lane transformed the school's culture by initiating a Positive Behavior, Interventions and Supports program. This included PRIDE expectations, Hornet Bucks, a school store, the Emerald Leader Award, and signature traditions such as Fist Bump Mondays and High-Five Fridays. Over six years, discipline referrals decreased by 31 percent and the graduation rate increased by 20 percent. As discipline referrals declined, teacher retention improved, with teachers citing the school's relationship-focused environment as a key factor.

Lane has also addressed the national teacher shortage by recruiting students to become teachers and staff while they are still enrolled at Haines City High School. Currently, 35 of the school's 147 teachers are alumni, with additional graduates serving as part-time substitutes, classroom aides, and secretaries. This workforce development pipeline has attracted national media attention and positioned Lane as a thought leader in public education.

As principal, Lane serves 2,900 students and 230 staff members, overseeing a school that includes an International Baccalaureate program, a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, the Environmental, Agricultural, and Technology Academy, the Academy of Media Production, the Academy of Children's Educational Studies, the Visual Arts Pathway, and the Performing Arts Pathway. Lane's leadership has earned him honors such as Florida Principal of the Year by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and recognition as National Principal of the Year by K-12 Dive. He has been an active member of the Florida Association of School Administrators, serving in committee roles that include working with state legislators on education policy and addressing diversity issues in public education, and he served as the association's president. Lane is a keynote speaker, workshop leader, and consultant, sharing his relationship-centered philosophy with educators and leaders nationwide.
