Adam Kucharski

Professor Adam Kucharski is a mathematician, epidemiologist, entrepreneur and bestselling author.

He has written several books that explore the science of risk, uncertainty and contagion. His book "The Rules of Contagion," which looks at the spread of ideas, behaviors and threats, was named as a Times, Guardian and FT Science Book of the Year. His latest book "Proof," which looks at evidence and decision-making under uncertainty, was named an FT, New Scientist and Waterstones Science Book of 2025.

Kucharski has also written for Wired, The Times and the Financial Times as well as being a regular voice in the international media and a TED Senior Fellow. He has been recognized for his work with the Medical Research Council Career Development Award in Biostatistics and the Wellcome Henry Dale fellowship, as well as The Adams Prize, one of the most prestigious prizes in mathematics, for his work on statistical methods.

In his academic research, he has led large-scale studies of social behavior and immunity, as well as developing new ways to understand and predict outbreaks. He has contributed scientific insights to government and health agencies; been profiled by the New York Times and The Times, and collaborated on research with organizations such as Meta, Space X, the BBC and the Premier League.

Most recently, Kucharski is cofounder and CTO of WholeSum, a VC-backed startup developing statistically robust, auditable methods for interpreting large volumes of unstructured data.
