
Abby Phillip is a television journalist who anchors "CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip," the network's weeknight primetime program airing at 10 p.m. ET. Phillip is recognized as the only Black woman to host a major primetime news program in the United States. She graduated from Harvard University with a degree in government and began her journalism career writing for The Harvard Crimson, where she discovered her interest in the field.
Phillip started her professional reporting career as a White House reporter and blogger for Politico, covering campaign finance and lobbying. She later reported for ABC News and The Washington Post before transitioning to television. Phillip joined CNN to cover the Trump administration, serving as White House correspondent before moving to campaign coverage. Phillip also hosted the CNN Special Report: "Kamala Harris: Making History."
Phillip was named the permanent host of CNN's 10 p.m. ET hour with the launch of "CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip." Phillip is the author of "A Dream Deferred: Jesse Jackson and the Fight for Black Political Power," a book examining Jesse Jackson's 1988 presidential campaign and its impact on Black political power in America. She is involved in maternal health advocacy, serving on the board of Serena Williams' birthFUND, and is committed to advancing democracy through her roles with the News Literacy Project and the Senior Advisory Committee of the Harvard Institute of Politics. Phillip is known for her incisive political analysis and presence in American journalism, moderating debates, anchoring breaking news, and delivering keynote addresses.
