Aarón Sánchez

Aarón Sánchez is a Mexican-American chef, restaurateur, television personality, cookbook author, and philanthropist known for his contributions to Latin cuisine and culinary education. Immersed in the culinary arts from a young age through his mother, restaurateur and cookbook author Zarela Martínez, Sánchez developed his skills under Chef Paul Prudhomme in New Orleans before studying culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University. He later worked with chefs Douglas Rodriguez at Patria and Reed Hearon at Rose Pistola, experiences that shaped his approach to Mexican and Latin American cooking.

Sánchez gained recognition in the New York restaurant scene as the chef behind Paladar, a pan-Latin restaurant on the Lower East Side that earned Time Out New York's award for Best New Lower East Side Restaurant and was named a Critic's Pick by New York magazine. He is the chef and owner of Johnny Sánchez in New Orleans, as well as Showbird and Adobo Cantina. His culinary philosophy emphasizes preserving traditional Mexican cuisine while incorporating contemporary techniques, reflecting his family's culinary heritage.

On television, Sánchez has appeared across multiple networks and formats. He served as a judge on FOX's "MasterChef" and "MasterChef Junior" alongside Gordon Ramsay, sharing his expertise in Mexican and global cuisines with a broad audience. He has also been a recurring judge on Food Network's "Chopped" and "Chopped Junior," hosted the Emmy-nominated Cooking Channel series "Taco Trip," and appeared on shows including "Iron Chef America," "Next Iron Chef," "Heat Seekers," and "Best Thing I Ever Ate." Sánchez has also served as host and executive producer of "Talking Sabor" on Hulu and "El Toque de Aarón" on Discovery Familia. His television work earned him a James Beard Award for Television Studio Program.

Sánchez is the author of two cookbooks, "La Comida del Barrio" and "Simple Food, Big Flavor," and a memoir, "Where I Come From: Life Lessons From a Latino Chef," which explores his personal journey and cultural influences. He is a partner and creative director for COCINA Media, a content platform dedicated to celebrating Hispanic culture through culinary traditions.

Sánchez founded the Aarón Sánchez Impact Fund, a program of the Emeril Lagasse Foundation, which provides aspiring Latino chefs with culinary scholarships, mentorship, and hands-on training. The fund has awarded scholarships valued at more than $1.6 million, supporting diversity in kitchen leadership. He was recognized by the Hispanic Federation with the Premio Orgullo Award for his leadership in the Hispanic community, highlighting his advocacy for opportunity and representation in the culinary industry.
