Casey Luong, known professionally as Keshi, is a Vietnamese-American singer-songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist recognized for his introspective blend of lo-fi hip-hop, R&B, and alternative pop. Luong began producing music while attending college, influenced by the rise of lo-fi hip-hop and albums such as Frank Ocean's "Blonde." While training as an oncology nurse at Texas Medical Center, he started releasing music anonymously on SoundCloud under the name Keshi, separating his medical career from his creative pursuits. His early tracks, including "Like I Need U" and "2 Soon," quickly garnered millions of streams. Luong credits online tutorials for teaching him music writing, production, and engineering.
After leaving his nursing career, Luong signed with Island Records and released the EP "The Reaper," which attracted significant attention and streaming success. He continued to build his audience with a trilogy of EPs: "Skeletons," featuring the title track with hundreds of millions of streams; "Bandaids," which included the hit "right here;" and "Always," featuring tracks such as "always" and "drunk."
Luong's debut LP, "Gabriel," achieved widespread streaming success with songs like "LIMBO," "UNDERSTAND," and "GET IT." The album earned recognition on the Billboard 200 and Top Album Sales Chart. Following the release, Luong embarked on a headlining tour, "Hell/Heaven," performing across Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia, and selling out venues including Radio City Music Hall in New York and The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
Luong's second studio album, "Requiem," was recorded as a tribute to his friend and collaborator Sebastian Sdaigui. The album, led by the single "Say," explored existential themes and was produced in collaboration with Elie Rizk, Imad Royal, and Malay. In support of "Requiem," Luong launched a world tour, performing at venues such as Madison Square Garden, Kia Forum, and The O2. He also contributed "War With Heaven" to Marvel's "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: The Album."
Central to Luong's approach is a self-produced style, handling writing, engineering, recording, arranging, and pre-mixing, often starting with GarageBand in a home studio setup. He has collaborated with brands including Microsoft, Fender, and Amazon Music, and has worked with designers such as Saint Laurent, Peter Do, Dion Lee, Fendi, and Barragán. Luong continues to release new music, including the single "WANTCHU," and maintains a presence in the global music and fashion industries.
