Yuto Horigome

Yuto Horigome is a Japanese professional skateboarder recognized for his achievements in Olympic street skateboarding. He became the first Olympic gold medalist in the men's street skateboarding event, which debuted at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Horigome began skateboarding at age six, introduced to the sport by his father. Facing challenges in Tokyo, where skateboarding was discouraged, he relocated to Los Angeles, a prominent center for skateboarding culture. At 15, Horigome started competing in American skateboarding contests, gaining attention for his technical skills and ability to navigate large rails and gaps.

Horigome advanced quickly in the professional skateboarding circuit. He debuted in Street League Skateboarding (SLS), a leading global competition series, at the Barcelona SLS Championship, earning a bronze medal as the youngest podium finisher. He later became the first Japanese athlete to win an SLS championship, securing gold in London and additional victories at SLS finals in Los Angeles and Huntington Beach, California. Horigome also won gold in men's street events at the X Games in Minneapolis, Chiba, and California. During the Tokyo Olympic Games, Horigome delivered high-scoring performances, including a 9.50 for a nollie backside 270, which contributed to his total score of 37.18 points and secured his gold medal. He went on to win the Street Skateboarding World Championships in Rome, defeating Nyjah Huston and further establishing his status among the world's top skateboarders. Horigome became the first Olympian to win two street skateboarding gold medals with a dramatic performance at the Paris Games. After falling during three consecutive attempts and entering the final round in seventh position, he landed a score of 97.08, the highest of the day, to claim his second Olympic gold.
