Woody Harrelson

Woody Harrelson is an Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated actor. He is best known for his work in "Cheers," "True Detective," "Natural Born Killers" and "The Hunger Games" series.

After graduating from Hanover College with degrees in theatre arts and English, Harrelson spent a few years doing stage work before moving on to television and film. His first major role was as the character 'Woody' in the show "Cheers." He went on to win an Emmy for his performance in the show.

His work in film really began to pick up in the late 1980s and early 1990s as "Cheers" ended. His first major film role was in 1991's "Doc Hollywood." Since then, Harrelson has gone on to star in a number of critically-acclaimed films. In 1996, he starred in the Miloš Forman drama "The People vs. Larry Flynt," which earned him his first Academy Award nomination. He starred in the widely praised Coen Brothers' film "No Country For Old Men."

He starred as Haymitch Abernathy in the popular "Hunger Games" series, adapted from the book series of the same name written by Suzanne Collins. In 2014, Harrelson returned to television to star in the hit HBO series "True Detective" alongside Matthew McConaughey. Harrelson was once again nominated for an Academy Award for his work in crime drama "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri."
