William Hung

William Hung is a Hong Kong-born American motivational speaker and former entertainer recognized for his unexpected rise to pop culture prominence. Hung gained national attention following his audition on the third season of the television series "American Idol," where he performed Ricky Martin's song "She Bangs." At the time, Hung was a civil engineering student at the University of California, Berkeley. His straightforward approach and response to criticism—"I already gave my best, and I have no regrets at all"—resonated with audiences and contributed to his widespread appeal.

Following his audition, Hung transitioned into an entertainment career. He signed a record deal with Koch Entertainment, releasing his debut album, "Inspiration," which sold approximately 200,000 copies and reached number one on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart. He later released the Christmas EP "Hung for the Holidays" and his second album, "Miracle: Happy Summer from William Hung." Hung promoted his music through live performances, including a halftime show at a Golden State Warriors basketball game, and appeared on television programs such as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and "Late Show with David Letterman."

Hung's entertainment work extended to film and television, including a role in the Hong Kong comedy "Where is Mama's Boy," and appearances in "Airline," "Arrested Development," and "George Lopez." He also returned to "American Idol" for special performances during later seasons.

After his entertainment career, Hung focused on education and public service. He earned a mathematics degree from California State University, Northridge, and an MBA from Marist College. Hung briefly taught high school mathematics before becoming a technical crime analyst for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and later worked for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Hung established himself as a motivational speaker, delivering keynote addresses for organizations such as the Asian Realtors Association of America. His message emphasizes perseverance and optimism, reflecting his journey from viral sensation to public servant and speaker.
