William H. Lewis

William H. Lewis is an executive with extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, combining legal knowledge, financial expertise, and entrepreneurial leadership. With more than 30 years in the pharmaceutical and finance sectors in the United States and internationally, Lewis has developed a career that spans the U.S. Foreign Service, investment banking, and leadership roles in global rare disease companies.

Before entering the biopharmaceutical field, Lewis spent over a decade in investment banking, holding positions at JP Morgan Chase & Co., Robertson Stephens Capital, and Wells Fargo & Co. He gained expertise in corporate strategy and financial markets across the U.S. and Europe. Lewis later co-founded Aegerion Pharmaceuticals, serving as president and chief financial officer, where he contributed to building the company prior to its acquisition. He then joined Insmed Incorporated as president and chief executive officer, later becoming chair of the board of directors.

At Insmed, Lewis has overseen the company's growth into a global commercial-stage biopharmaceutical organization focused on developing treatments for serious and rare diseases in the United States, Europe, Japan, and other regions. A key achievement during his tenure was the approval of "ARIKAYCE" (amikacin liposome inhalation suspension), Insmed's first commercial product for Mycobacterium avium complex lung disease. Lewis also led the company through the approval of "BRINSUPRI" (brensocatib), the first approved treatment for non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis, based on data from the Phase 3 ASPEN study, the largest clinical trial conducted in bronchiectasis patients.

Lewis has outlined a strategy to expand Insmed's reach from approximately 30,000 patients to more than 2.5 million, supported by a pipeline that includes additional indications for brensocatib and a pulmonary hypertension program. His leadership has contributed to increased investor confidence and shareholder support. In addition to his role at Insmed, Lewis serves as chair of the board of directors of NewAmsterdam Pharma and is a trustee of Case Western Reserve University and BioNJ. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oberlin College, as well as a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from Case Western Reserve University.
