Werner Herzog

Werner Herzog is a prolific German filmmaker, author, and opera director whose career spans over six decades and more than 60 films and documentaries. Known for masterpieces such as Aguirre, the Wrath of God, The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, and Fitzcarraldo, Herzog’s work explores the complex interplay between human ambition, nature, and the limits of the human spirit. His films are distinguished by a distinctive, improvisational style, blending documentary realism with poetic storytelling.

Beyond cinema, Herzog has published over a dozen books and, in 2023, released his memoir Every Man for Himself and God Against All, recounting his life from fleeing Nazi Germany and discovering cinema at age 11 to navigating the challenges of the film industry.

His adventurous life—walking from Munich to Paris to prevent a friend’s death, surviving a near-fatal shooting, and relocating to Los Angeles—combined with his multilingual fluency in English, French, Greek, and Spanish, enriches his storytelling and lectures.
