Wagner Moura

Wagner Moura's career is rich with diverse acting roles both in film and television. A standout performance came with his portrayal of drug trafficker Pablo Escobar in the Netflix crime series "Narcos," a role that earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actor – Television Series Drama. Other notable performances include his roles in "Elite Squad" and its sequel "Elite Squad: The Enemy Within," the latter of which became the highest-grossing film in Brazil. Moura's performance in "The Secret Agent" in 2025 garnered him the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor, making him the first South American actor to receive this honor. His performance in the role earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama. He also lends his voice to animation, receiving an Annie Award nomination for his performance as Death in "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish."

Not only an accomplished actor, Moura made his directorial debut with the political thriller "Marighella" in 2019, which premiered at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival. His directorial skills were further showcased when he directed two episodes of "Narcos: Mexico's" third season. His work in "Marighella" was recognized at the Festival Sesc Melhores Filmes in 2022, where he won Best Brazilian Feature and Best Brazilian Director (both audience and critics' choice).

Moura's talent has been recognized with numerous awards, including five Brazilian Academy Film Awards and the Golden Bear at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival for "Elite Squad." He was also honored at the Braskem Theater Award in 2011 and was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2021.
