Victoria Mboko

Victoria Vanessa Mboko is a Canadian tennis player who has rapidly emerged as one of the sport’s most promising young talents. Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Congolese parents who fled political unrest, Mboko and her family moved soon after to Toronto, Ontario. She is the youngest of four siblings, all of whom play tennis. Her sister, Gracia, and brother, Kevin, both competed at the collegiate level in the United States. Inspired by her family, Mboko began playing tennis at the age of three or four.

Mboko’s breakthrough came in 2025 at the National Bank Open in Montreal, where she claimed her first WTA Tour title as a wildcard entrant. On her way to the championship, she defeated four Grand Slam champions, including Sofia Kenin, Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Naomi Osaka, defeating Osaka in the final, 2–6, 6–4, 6–1. The victory made her the youngest Canadian woman in the Open Era to win the Canadian Open and the second-lowest-ranked player to capture a WTA 1000 title. Earlier that year, she reached the third round at the French Open and the second round at Wimbledon.

Mboko plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. Her game combines a powerful serve with consistent counterpunching and tactical use of drop shots. She is coached by former professional players Nathalie Tauziat and Noëlle van Lottum.

Raised in a family dedicated to tennis, Mboko credits her parents, particularly her father, Cyprien Mboko, for supporting her career through significant personal sacrifices. Her rise reflects both her talent and the foundation built by her family.

As of August 2025, Mboko holds a singles record of 122–47, with one WTA singles title. Her highest singles ranking is No. 24. In doubles, she has a 17–16 record and reached a career-high ranking of No. 540. She has earned more than $1.19 million in career prize money.

Victoria Mboko is widely regarded as a rising star in women’s tennis, combining athleticism, mental toughness and skill, and she is expected to remain a prominent figure on the WTA Tour for years to come.
