Vanna White is widely recognized in American television, best known as the co-host of the game show "Wheel of Fortune." After studying at the Atlanta School of Fashion and Design and working as a model, White moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. She was selected from 200 applicants to join host Pat Sajak on the NBC game show "Wheel of Fortune," created by Merv Griffin. After the previous co-host departed, White was chosen as one of three substitutes before becoming the regular co-host.
White has appeared in more than 7,000 episodes of "Wheel of Fortune," revealing letters on the puzzle board and supporting contestants. She was recognized in The Guinness Book of World Records as "Television's Most Frequent Clapper," averaging 720 claps per episode and more than 28,000 claps per season. She received a Guinness World Record certificate for this achievement on an episode of "Wheel of Fortune." White was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with Pat Sajak, Merv Griffin, and Alex Trebek in attendance. She was also inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame, along with Sajak, former executive producer Harry Friedman, and "Wheel of Fortune."
White's career extends beyond game shows. Her autobiography, "Vanna Speaks!," was a best-seller. She starred as Venus in the television movie "Goddess of Love" and has made cameo appearances in films and television series. White also stepped into the host position for several episodes while Sajak recovered from surgery. Her entrepreneurial work includes creating the yarn brand "Vanna's Choice" through Lion Brand, donating half of the proceeds to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, raising over $2 million.
"Wheel of Fortune" introduced a new set and host Ryan Seacrest after Sajak's retirement. White signed a contract extension to continue as co-host in addition to hosting "Celebrity Wheel of Fortune" on ABC. With more than four decades on one of television's longest-running programs, White continues to be a prominent figure in American entertainment, television hosting, and pop culture.
