Vampire Weekend Biography
Vampire Weekend is an indie rock band from New York City known for blending rock, pop, and world music influences. The group was formed in 2006 by lead vocalist and guitarist Ezra Koenig, multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij, drummer Chris Tomson, and bassist Chris Baio.
Their self-titled debut album, released in 2008, included the singles “Mansard Roof,” “A-Punk,” “Oxford Comma,” “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” and “The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance.” The follow-up, Contra (2010), continued their critical and commercial success.
Their third album, Modern Vampires of the City (2013), won the Grammy for best alternative music album. Batmanglij left the band in 2016.
Vampire Weekend returned in 2019 with Father of the Bride, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The band remains active, with Koenig, Tomson, and Baio continuing to tour and record new music.
