Tyler Kolek

Tyler Kolek is a professional NBA point guard for the New York Knicks. Before joining the NBA, Kolek began his collegiate basketball career at George Mason University, where he earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year honors. He later transferred to Marquette University, where he was named Big East Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Player of the Big East Tournament. Kolek helped lead Marquette to a school-record 17 conference wins and its highest national ranking in decades. He concluded his college career as a consensus Second-Team All-American and a unanimous First-Team All-Big East selection, leading the NCAA in assists per game during his senior season.

During his time at Marquette, Kolek set a program single-game record with 18 assists in a win over DePaul and finished his collegiate career ranked second all-time in program assists. His ability to read defenses, particularly in pick-and-roll situations, and his effectiveness around the rim contributed to his reputation as a skilled floor general.

Kolek was selected 34th overall in the NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers and was traded on draft night to the New York Knicks, where he began his professional basketball career. He spent time developing with the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G League, averaging 18.5 points, 9.0 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game. Kolek later took on an increased role with New York, appearing in 62 regular-season games and averaging 4.4 points and 2.7 assists per contest. He set a career high with 20 points in a regular-season game against Minnesota. Kolek became an NBA champion when the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs to claim the NBA Championship in his second season.

With the Knicks' championship, Kolek became the seventh player in Marquette history to win an NBA title and only the second to do so as a member of the Knicks, joining Dean Meminger from the 1972-73 squad. Kolek's progression from high school prospect to NBA champion highlights his development as a basketball player and his consistent ability to facilitate team success at every level.
