Turnpike Troubadours

The Turnpike Troubadours are an American country music band from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, recognized for their genre-blending sound within the roots music and Americana landscape. Founded by frontman and songwriter Evan Felker and bassist R.C. Edwards, the band expanded to a six-piece lineup that includes lead guitarist Ryan Engleman, fiddler Kyle Nix, drummer Gabe Pearson, and multi-instrumentalist Hank Early on pedal steel, dobro, and accordion. Their musical style incorporates elements of red dirt, honky-tonk, bluegrass, Cajun, and country rock, with Felker's lyricism at the forefront.

The band established Bossier City Records and built a dedicated following through extensive touring in venues across Oklahoma and Texas. Their album "Goodbye Normal Street" charted on country, folk, and rock charts, expanding their reach beyond the regional Red Dirt scene. The self-titled album "Turnpike Troubadours" debuted at number three on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and entered the top 20 of the Billboard 200. "A Long Way from Your Heart" repeated the top-three country chart performance and led to performances in larger venues. The Turnpike Troubadours have become a significant presence in the Americana circuit, influencing a new generation of country artists, including Zach Bryan.

During a period of commercial success, the band faced challenges when Felker's struggles with alcoholism resulted in canceled shows and a hiatus. Felker stepped away from music, focusing on recovery and working as a ranch hand in Texas. After a period of reflection, the band reunited and returned to live performances, beginning with a show at Cain's Ballroom in Oklahoma and a subsequent performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

The album "A Cat in the Rain," recorded at FAME Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and produced by Shooter Jennings, marked a significant return. The album debuted at number five on Billboard's Independent Albums chart, number nine on the Top Country Albums chart, and number 34 on the Billboard 200. The album explores themes of redemption, resilience, and gratitude, resonating with audiences. The band was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame, highlighting their contribution to the state's musical heritage.

The Turnpike Troubadours continued their creative output with "The Price of Admission," an 11-track release that underscores their commitment to authentic, emotionally resonant storytelling. Their journey from regional venues to national recognition reflects the enduring appeal of country music, roots music, and Americana traditions.
