Trevor Immelman

Trevor Immelman is a South African retired professional golfer and television commentator whose career has spanned the PGA Tour, European Tour, and Sunshine Tour. Immelman began playing golf at age 5, became a scratch golfer by age 12, and competed on the African Junior Golf Association Tour from ages 13 to 17, eventually joining the South African national team for the Eisenhower Trophy in Chile. He won the South African Amateur Championship before turning professional, initially playing on the Challenge Tour in Europe and later becoming a full member of the European Tour. Immelman secured four wins on the European Tour and, alongside Rory Sabbatini, won the WGC-World Cup for South Africa.

Immelman claimed his first PGA Tour victory at the Cialis Western Open, which propelled him into the top 15 in the Official World Golf Rankings. He finished that season in the top 10 of the PGA Tour money list, was named Rookie of the Year, and reached a career-high world ranking of twelfth. His career faced a setback due to a health issue that required surgery to remove a benign tumor from his diaphragm, causing him to miss the first eight weeks of the following PGA Tour season. Immelman returned to win the Masters Tournament, finishing 8 under par and defeating Tiger Woods by three strokes. He became the first South African since Gary Player to win the Masters and earn the Green Jacket at Augusta National.

Persistent injuries, including tendonitis in his left wrist and elbow, affected Immelman's performance in subsequent seasons. As his five-year exemption for winning the Masters expired, he competed in the Web.com Tour Finals, winning the Hotel Fitness Championship and finishing sixth overall to regain his PGA Tour card. Throughout his career, Immelman represented South Africa at the World Cup four times and played on the International team in the Presidents Cup, later serving as the International captain. As captain, he led the International team at the Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Since joining CBS Sports, Immelman has become a recognized voice in golf broadcasting, starting as a tower analyst and advancing to lead analyst in CBS Sports golf coverage, succeeding Nick Faldo in the 18th-hole tower. His commentary is noted for explaining complex golf concepts in accessible terms while maintaining analytical depth, appealing to both casual and dedicated golf fans. Immelman was also announced as chairman of the Official World Golf Ranking, reflecting his influence in the golf industry both on and off the course.
