Trevor Beck Frost is a photographer, filmmaker, and National Geographic Explorer whose work focuses on visual storytelling and wildlife conservation. A former photojournalist, Frost has produced photo essays for National Geographic Magazine, The Washington Post, and Wired Magazine, among other publications. Throughout his career, he has worked on every continent except Antarctica, often venturing into remote environments such as rainforests and caves, and has spent significant time in Australia, Ethiopia, and India, where he has documented wildlife including crocodiles and snakes. His immersive, long-form approach to photography—spending years embedded in the worlds he documents—has established him as a dedicated visual journalist in the field of natural history.
Frost has received five grant awards from the National Geographic Society for his storytelling work, two of which resulted in feature photograph articles in National Geographic Magazine. His accolades include First Prize in the Human Nature Category at the Big Picture Photo Competition, the Howard Chapnick Award, and First Place at the Fotoweek DC Photojournalism Prize. His photographs have also been exhibited at Visa pour l'Image: International Festival of Photojournalism. In addition to his photography, Frost has worked as a host, cameraman, and producer on television documentaries, including "Amazing Animal Selfies," "Mission Critical: Orangutans on the Edge," and "Mission Critical: Sharks Under Attack."
Frost's transition into feature documentary filmmaking marked an evolution in his storytelling. He became a Sundance Institute Documentary Fund grantee for a feature documentary he co-directed and produced with his partner, Melissa Lesh. The film, titled "Wildcat," follows a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, a young female scientist, and an orphaned ocelot taken from the wild for the illegal pet trade, as all three strive to heal from trauma in the Peruvian Amazon. The film was financed by 30 West, acquired by Amazon Studios, and premiered at the Telluride Film Festival. "Wildcat" released in theaters across the United States and United Kingdom and subsequently on Amazon Prime, and was named one of the best documentaries of the year by Variety, with Indiewire including it in its Best Cinematography list. The film won seven awards, including Audience Awards from the Orcas Island, Santa Fe, Heartland, and Montclair Film Festivals, the Jimmy Stewart Legacy Award from the Heartland Film Festival, Best Documentary Feature from the Twin Cities Film Festival, and a Top 5 Documentaries of the Year designation from the National Board of Review.
Beyond his directorial work, Frost continues to contribute to conservation storytelling. He is also associated with "Trade Secret" and "Person of the Forest"—projects that reflect his commitment to wildlife advocacy through cinema. Frost serves as a senior adviser to Prince Hussain Aga Khan on global conservation issues and is an Eddie Bauer Adventure Guide. He is also a research associate of Re:Wild, a U.S.-based nonprofit. Whether behind a camera in a remote rainforest or on stage sharing his experiences with audiences, Frost brings scientific curiosity and artistic vision to conservation, making him a prominent voice in the field.
