Toshihiro Mibe

Toshihiro Mibe is the president, CEO and representative director of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., a role he has held since April 2021, guiding the global automaker’s strategic direction amid a period of industry transformation. A career Honda executive, Mibe joined the company in 1987 and built his reputation as an engineer and R&D leader specializing in engine development. His technical expertise helped shape several of Honda’s and Acura’s most influential powertrains over the past two decades.

Mibe spent much of his early career in automobile research and development, contributing to core engine technologies that supported Honda’s reputation for performance and reliability. His leadership trajectory accelerated as he moved into senior management roles focused on product development, production strategy, and corporate innovation. In 2009, he became an operating officer at Honda, later advancing to managing officer of Honda R&D Co. in 2012.

Throughout the mid-2010s, Mibe assumed increasing responsibility across Honda’s automotive operations. He served as executive in charge of the Powertrain Business, overseeing powertrain production, automobile manufacturing operations, and R&D strategy. By 2016, he was named senior managing officer and director of Honda R&D Co., where he directed the Automobile R&D Center and helped steer long-term mobility research.

Mibe played a central role in Honda’s global electrification strategy, strengthening collaboration with General Motors on battery technology, electric vehicles, and autonomous mobility systems, including joint initiatives with Cruise in shared autonomous vehicle development. His leadership also extended to intellectual property management, standardization, and enterprise-wide manufacturing and quality operations.

Prior to becoming CEO, Mibe served as senior managing director of Honda Motor Co. while simultaneously leading Honda R&D. As CEO, he continues to focus on advancing Honda’s transition toward electrification, software-enabled mobility, and sustainable global manufacturing.
