Tope Awotona

Tope Awotona is a Nigerian-American technology entrepreneur and the founder, chairman, and CEO of Calendly, a widely used scheduling software platform that has influenced how professionals manage meetings and appointments. Awotona earned a degree in management information systems from the University of Georgia before beginning a career in enterprise software sales. He worked for companies including IBM, Perceptive Software, and Dell Technologies, and launched several startups prior to founding Calendly. Early ventures, such as businesses selling projectors and garden tools, did not succeed but contributed to his development as an entrepreneur.

Awotona established Calendly to address the inefficiencies of scheduling meetings through email. He invested his personal savings and resources to create a scheduling tool designed to streamline meetings, appointments, and communication for users. Calendly launched as a bootstrapped company and grew to serve more than 20 million users worldwide. The company achieved unicorn status with a multibillion-dollar valuation following a significant investment.
