Tony Stewart

Tony Stewart, nicknamed "Smoke," is an American semi-retired professional auto racing driver, and former NASCAR team co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing. He currently competes in the NHRA Top Fuel class.

Throughout his racing career, Stewart has won titles in Indy, midget, sprint and USAC Silver Crown cars. He is the only driver in history to win championships in both IndyCar and NASCAR. Stewart became known for his hot temper and sarcastic exchanges with the media.

He last competed full time in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (now the NASCAR Cup Series) in 2016, driving the No. 14 Chevrolet SS for his team, Stewart-Haas Racing, under crew chief Mike Bugarewicz. From 1999 to 2008, he drove the No. 20 car for Joe Gibbs Racing with crew chief Greg Zipadelli and The Home Depot as the primary sponsor. While driving for team owner Joe Gibbs, Stewart won Cup Series championships in 2002 and 2005.

In 2011, he became the first owner-driver since Alan Kulwicki to win the Cup Series championship. Stewart is the only driver to win the championship under the old points system, the Chase playoff format and under three different title sponsors: Winston (2002), Nextel (2005) and Sprint (2011). He is also the first driver in Cup Series history to win the championship via a tiebreaker.

Stewart was voted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame on May 22, 2019, and was inducted on Jan. 31, 2020, as part of the 11th Hall of Fame class. He married NHRA Top Fuel drag racer Leah Pruett on Nov. 21, 2021. Stewart is set to replace Pruett in Top Fuel for the 2024 season as she steps aside to start a family.
