Tom Freston was one of the founding executives of MTV and served as chief executive officer of Viacom. Freston played a key role in the "I Want My MTV" advertising campaign. He became chief executive officer of MTV Networks, where he expanded the networks into new markets and launched programs such as "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," "The Real World," "Beavis and Butthead," "South Park," and "SpongeBob SquarePants." Freston later led Viacom, overseeing cable network properties including MTV Networks and Showtime Networks, the motion picture businesses of Paramount Pictures, and the publishing operations of Simon & Schuster.
Freston is a senior advisor to The Raine Group, a merchant bank, and serves on the boards of Imagine Entertainment, Vice Media, and Moby Group, a media company based in Dubai. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for Emerson College in Boston. Freston is recognized for his influence in media and philanthropy, with a focus on supporting independent journalism and global media development. He frequently speaks at industry events and conferences, offering insights on media innovation and leadership. Freston was educated at New York University.
