Tim Duncan

Tim Duncan is a retired professional basketball player widely recognized as one of the greatest power forwards in National Basketball Association (NBA) history. His career with the San Antonio Spurs, spanning from 1997 to 2016, is highlighted by five NBA championships and numerous individual accolades, including two NBA MVP awards, three NBA Finals MVP awards, and 15 NBA All-Star selections.

Duncan’s basketball journey began at Wake Forest University, where he earned recognition as the consensus College Player of the Year. Selected as the first overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs, he won the NBA Rookie of the Year award and quickly became the cornerstone of the franchise. Known for his fundamentally sound game, leadership on and off the court, and quiet yet dominant presence, Duncan also earned 10 selections to the All-NBA First Team and established himself as a two-way player excelling in both scoring and defense.

Under Duncan’s leadership, the Spurs reached the playoffs consistently, capturing NBA titles in 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014. His partnership with coach Gregg Popovich is considered one of the most successful player-coach duos in NBA history.

Retiring in 2016, Duncan left a lasting legacy, culminating in his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020 and his inclusion on the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. Off the court, Duncan is committed to philanthropy through the Tim Duncan Foundation, which focuses on education, health, youth development, and improving the lives of children and families in the U.S. Virgin Islands and San Antonio, Texas.
