Tim Cahill

Tim Cahill is an Australian former professional soccer player known for his roles as an attacking midfielder and striker. Cahill built a reputation for his aggressive approach and heading ability in the penalty area. Over a 20-year professional soccer career, he played in five countries, making 608 league appearances and scoring 152 goals. Cahill's influence contributed to the growth of soccer in Australia and the development of professionalism within the sport.

Cahill began his club career after leaving Sydney to join Millwall in England, where he made more than 200 appearances. He was part of the Millwall squad that won the Football League Second Division title and reached the FA Cup Final. His performances led to a transfer to Everton, where he played 226 matches and scored 56 goals. During his debut season at Everton, he was named both Everton Player of the Season and Everton Players' Player of the Season. He was later nominated for the Ballon d'Or, becoming the first Everton player in more than a decade to receive the nomination. Cahill continued his club career with the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, as well as Shanghai Shenhua and Hangzhou Greentown in the Chinese Super League, before returning to Australia to play for Melbourne City in the A-League. While with the Red Bulls, he set a record for the fastest goal in MLS history, scoring eight seconds into a match against Houston, and was named to the MLS All-Star team. He was also recognized as Best MLS Player at the ESPY Awards.

Internationally, Cahill scored 50 goals in 108 appearances for the Australia national team, making him the country's all-time leading goalscorer. He was the first Australian to score in a World Cup and scored in three consecutive World Cups. Cahill also became the first Australian to score in an Asian Cup. His volley against the Netherlands at the World Cup was nominated for the Puskas Award and is regarded as one of the greatest goals in FIFA World Cup history. Cahill led Australia in scoring during the Asian Cup, helping the team secure its first Asian Cup title. He also holds the record as Australia's oldest goalscorer, netting a winner against Syria at age 37.

After retiring from professional soccer, Cahill moved into leadership and executive roles within the sport. He earned top coaching qualifications in Europe and served as Head of Delegation for the Australia National Team at the FIFA World Cup Qatar. Cahill works as a pundit for BBC Sport and Sky Sports. His charitable work includes serving as an ambassador for UNICEF and Heartbeat of Football, an organization promoting heart health through soccer. Cahill has been inducted into both the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and the Football Australia Hall of Fame, recognized for his contributions to soccer and his status as the Socceroos' all-time leading goalscorer. His career has influenced the growth of soccer in Australia and inspired future generations of players.
