Thomas Tull

Thomas Tull is an American entrepreneur, film producer, and technology investor recognized as the founder of Legendary Entertainment, a major Hollywood film production company. After college, Tull shifted from plans to become a lawyer to launching a chain of laundromats. He later joined the Convex Group, an Atlanta-based investment group, where he began investing in entertainment and learning the business. Following discussions about private equity with a film executive, Tull left Convex and raised $600 million in equity to finance movies under the Legendary Pictures banner.

Tull founded Legendary Entertainment with Jon Jashni, Larry Clark, William Fay, and Scott Mednick, serving as CEO and chairman. Legendary Pictures partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures on a range of theatrical features. Notable releases under their joint banner include Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" and Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy, which began with "Batman Begins" and continued with "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises." Tull also executive produced "Straight Outta Compton" and "Jurassic World," with additional credits including "Godzilla," "Pacific Rim," "42," "300," "The Town," "Inception," "Clash of the Titans," and the "Hangover" franchise.

Legendary was among the first film production companies to leverage technology and data analytics to enhance movie marketing and decision-making. Tull established an analytics division within the company to use data for marketing and other key business decisions. Under Tull's leadership, Legendary's productions achieved global box office grosses exceeding $13 billion. Legendary was acquired by Wanda Cultural Industry Group, with Tull retaining a 20 percent stake. Tull also produced the music documentary "It Might Get Loud," featuring The Edge, Jimmy Page, and Jack White.

After leaving Legendary, Tull founded Tulco, LLC, a Pittsburgh-based holding company investing in large industries and supporting portfolio companies with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and predictive data analytics. Tull serves as chairman of the U.S. Innovative Technology Fund, a defense-focused investment vehicle supporting early- and growth-stage AI and technology companies, including Capella Space, ShieldAI, and Anduril. Tull is also co-chairman of TWG Global, an investment group focused on building AI capabilities across multiple industries, including financial services.

Tull has been a Pittsburgh Steelers fan since age four and is a part-owner of the team, as well as a minority stakeholder in the New York Yankees. He is a member of the MIT School of Engineering Dean's Advisory Council and a trustee of Carnegie Mellon University, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Smithsonian Institution. Tull is a founder and member of the American rock and southern soul band Ghost Hounds, in which he plays guitar. A comic book fan and gamer, Tull's career spans entrepreneurship, film production, and technology investment, reflecting a broad engagement with the entertainment and technology industries.
