Thomas Dohmke

Thomas Dohmke is a German software engineer and technology executive recognized for his contributions to developer tools and artificial intelligence in software development. Dohmke studied computer engineering at Technische Universität Berlin and earned a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Glasgow, building a foundation in both software and hardware that has influenced his approach to product leadership.

Dohmke co-founded HockeyApp, a mobile developer tools company acquired by Microsoft, which led to his integration into the Microsoft ecosystem and subsequent leadership roles. He served as GitHub's chief product officer, where he directed product strategy, roadmap, and developer relations. Dohmke later became chief executive officer of GitHub, guiding the platform through significant growth and innovation. Under his leadership, GitHub expanded to a community of more than 150 million developers and surpassed one billion repositories and forks. He played a key role in advancing AI-powered software development, overseeing the launches of "GitHub Copilot," "Copilot Workspace," and "GitHub Models," which collectively formed a widely adopted suite of AI developer tools. GitHub Copilot evolved from a basic autocompletion tool into a comprehensive coding assistant serving more than 20 million users.

Dohmke has been a TED speaker and an influential voice in global discussions on the future of software engineering, AI regulation, and coding education. He has advocated for integrating coding into standard curricula alongside mathematics and literacy and has engaged with policymakers on issues such as the EU's AI Act. Dohmke is known for demonstrating complex technologies in accessible ways, including building a working snake game live on stage at Web Summit Rio using AI.

After his tenure at GitHub, Dohmke returned to the startup sector and launched Entire, an open-source developer platform designed for agentic coding. Entire aims to help engineering teams manage and govern software produced by AI agents, capturing code as well as the prompts, decisions, and execution traces behind it. The company secured a significant seed investment and is positioned to address the evolving challenges of AI-driven software development. Dohmke's work continues to shape the landscape of developer tools, open-source platforms, and artificial intelligence in software engineering.
