Thom Yorke

Thom Yorke is an English musician known for his work as the singer and principal songwriter of the rock band Radiohead. Yorke plays guitar, bass, keyboards, and other instruments, and is recognized for his wide vocal range. He formed Radiohead with schoolmates at Abingdon School in Oxfordshire, and the band gained attention with their debut single, "Creep," achieving critical acclaim and sales of more than 30 million albums.

Radiohead's progression in rock music is marked by a series of influential albums. The band's third album, "OK Computer," is regarded as a landmark record in popular music, noted for its complex production and themes of modern alienation. With Radiohead's fourth album, "Kid A," Yorke incorporated electronic music influences, drawing inspiration from Warp artists such as Aphex Twin. Radiohead is cited as one of the leading rock bands of the 21st century, with more than 30 million albums sold. His third solo album, "Anima," was produced by Nigel Godrich and accompanied by a short film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Yorke also composed the original score for Luca Guadagnino's remake of the horror film "Suspiria," marking his first feature-length film soundtrack, and created the original soundtrack for the film "Confidenza."

Yorke debuted the band the Smile with Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood and jazz drummer Tom Skinner. The Smile released their debut, "A Light for Attracting Attention," followed by "Wall of Eyes" and "Cutouts." Yorke also collaborated with electronic musician Mark Pritchard on the album "Tall Tales," released through Warp Records. Yorke has been recognized with the Academy Fellowship award at the Ivor Novello Awards, which honor the craft, cultural impact, and enduring importance of songs and screen compositions.

Yorke's creative pursuits extend beyond music. An exhibition of Yorke and longtime collaborator Stanley Donwood's artwork, "This Is What You Get," opened at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. Yorke reworked "Hail to the Thief" for Hamlet Hail to the Thief, a stage production of Hamlet. He has undertaken solo concert tours, performing music from his solo projects and his bands Radiohead, Atoms for Peace, and the Smile. A concert film, "Thom Yorke Live at Sydney Opera House," premiered in Sydney and received a theatrical release. An advocate for human rights, animal rights, environmental, and anti-war causes, Yorke frequently incorporates political themes into his lyrics, establishing his presence as a thoughtful and enduring voice in rock music and contemporary culture.
