The Living End

The Living End is an Australian rock band known for their high-energy performances, distinctive blend of punk rock, rockabilly, and classic rock influences, and their role in revitalizing interest in guitar-driven rock music around the world. Formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1994, the band has become one of the country’s most successful and enduring rock acts, earning a reputation for their explosive live shows and genre-defying sound.

The band was founded by vocalist and guitarist Chris Cheney and drummer Andy Strachan, alongside bassist Scott Owen, whose upright bass playing became one of The Living End’s defining musical trademarks. Drawing inspiration from artists including The Clash, The Stray Cats, AC/DC, and early rock and roll pioneers, the group developed a unique style that combines punk’s urgency with the swagger and musicianship of 1950s rockabilly.

The Living End achieved international success with their 1997 debut single “Prisoner of Society." Their self-titled debut album, released in 1998, reached the top of the Australian charts and earned widespread critical acclaim. The album produced multiple hit singles and achieved multi-platinum status in Australia.

Over the course of their career, The Living End have released numerous acclaimed albums, including Roll On, Modern Artillery, State of Emergency, The Ending Is Just the Beginning Repeating, Shift, and Wunderbar. Their music has consistently showcased their ability to balance punk energy, rockabilly roots, and socially conscious songwriting, while their musicianship and live performances have earned them a devoted international fan base.
