Tee Franklin

Tee Franklin is a comic writer, television writer, and public speaker recognized for her contributions to Image Comics, DC Comics, and Marvel Comics. Franklin became the first Black, queer, disabled woman writer to have a series published by Image Comics with the graphic novella "Bingo Love," a queer romance that achieved multiple printings and commercial success. The book was funded through Kickstarter, raising $57,000, and sold out prior to release. "Bingo Love" received a GLAAD Media Award nomination for best comic, was a GoodReads Choice nominee, appeared on several best-of lists, and won the Virginia Library Diversity Award for best graphic novel.

Franklin is also the first Black woman to write DC Comics characters Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy in the GLAAD-nominated and bestselling series "Harley Quinn: Eat. Bang! Kill Tour." The series follows Harley and Ivy on a cross-country adventure and achieved commercial success, ranking number one on Amazon charts and earning a GLAAD Media Award nomination for Outstanding Comic. Franklin continued her work with "Harley Quinn: The Animated Series – Legion of Bats!," a miniseries exploring Harley's alliances and conflicts in Gotham. She also wrote the horror miniseries "Jook Joint" for Image Comics, drawing from her experiences as a domestic abuse survivor.

Franklin co-created Charlotte Webber, also known as Sun-Spider, a disabled Spider-person with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome for Marvel Comics. The character appeared in "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse." Franklin's stories have been featured in the New York Times bestselling and Eisner Award-winning graphic novel "Love Is Love," as well as anthologies such as "Elements: Fire" and "Femme Magnifique."

The Ford Foundation and Mellon Foundation named Franklin a Disability Futures Fellow, recognizing her work in advancing disability representation in comics and media. Advocate Magazine included her among Icons, Innovators and Disruptors. Franklin is an advocate for representation and accessibility in the comic book industry, creating hashtags such as #BlackComicsMonth, #TeensThatLookLikeTeens, and #NoRampNoPanel to promote diversity and inclusion. Her work focuses on challenging harmful narratives about disabled people and demonstrating the importance of accommodations and accessibility in creative industries.
