Suzy Whaley

Suzy Whaley is a pioneering figure in the world of golf, celebrated for her achievements as both a top-level instructor and a transformative leader. In 2018, she made history as the first woman elected President of the PGA of America, following previous roles as Secretary and Vice President. During her tenure, she championed key initiatives to promote inclusion, elevate youth engagement, and increase women's participation in golf—helping to establish the Women’s PGA Cup and expand the Girls Junior PGA Championship.

Whaley’s competitive career is just as notable. In 2002, she won the Connecticut PGA Championship, becoming the first woman to win a PGA individual professional tournament. This victory qualified her for the 2003 Greater Hartford Open, making her the first woman to compete in a PGA Tour event since Babe Zaharias in 1945.

A dual member of the PGA of America and the LPGA Teaching & Club Professional division, Whaley has earned widespread recognition as a Golf Digest Top 50 Instructor and a GOLF Magazine Top 100 Teacher. She has coached hundreds of junior golfers to collegiate programs and has been honored multiple times as Connecticut PGA Teacher of the Year.

Currently, Whaley serves as the PGA Director of Instruction at The Country Club at Mirasol in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and lends her expertise as an on-course commentator and analyst for ESPN.

She has been inducted into the Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame, the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame, and the PGA of America Hall of Fame. Suzy Whaley’s legacy is defined by her commitment to breaking barriers and shaping the future of golf through leadership, education, and inclusion.
