Sue Enquist

Sue Enquist is recognized for her significant contributions to collegiate softball, both as a player and coach at UCLA. Enquist played a pivotal role in leading UCLA to its first national softball championship in the Women's College World Series and became the university's first All-American softball player. Her career batting average of .401 stood as the UCLA team record for 24 years. In addition to her collegiate achievements, Enquist competed internationally, earning gold medals at three National Sports Festivals, the World Championships, and the Pan American Games.

After earning a bachelor's degree in kinesiology, Enquist joined the UCLA softball coaching staff, first as an assistant coach, then as co-head coach, and ultimately as the sole head coach. Over 18 years as co-head and head coach, she compiled a record of 887–175–1, achieving a career winning percentage of .835, the highest among college softball coaches with 800 or more career wins. During her tenure as both player and coach, the Bruins softball team secured 11 national championships. Enquist is the only individual in NCAA softball history to win a championship as both a head coach and a player. Her leadership at UCLA produced 15 Olympians who accounted for 30 Olympic selections.

Enquist also served as a World Champion and USA National Team coach and player. She is the only person to have played on the first Pan American gold medal team and to coach on the first Olympic Team National Staff, which earned the inaugural Olympic gold medal in softball. She contributed as a culture consultant for USA Volleyball during its gold and silver medal campaigns. Enquist has been inducted into six Halls of Fame, including UCLA, Women's Sports Foundation, USA Softball Hall of Fame, and National Fastpitch Coaches Association. She has received multiple National Coach of the Year and Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors.

Beyond coaching and playing, Enquist is known for her work in softball education and leadership development. She authored the book "101 Offensive Drills for Softball" and founded ONE Softball, an online resource for softball parents, players, and coaches. Enquist has served as an instructor for UCLA's Transformative Coaching and Leadership program and co-founded UCLA Athletics' Wooden Academy, a leadership development program for student-athletes.

Enquist has built a career as a speaker and leadership consultant, working with organizations such as Toyota, the NCAA, Los Angeles Dodgers, ESPN, and Stryker Medical. She is a keynote speaker for Fortune 500 companies, with expertise in individual mastery, managing change, and team cohesion. Enquist's coaching philosophy emphasizes transformational leadership and athlete development, drawing on decades of experience in collegiate and international softball.
