Stuart Miller

Stuart A. Miller is executive chairman and chief executive officer of Lennar Corporation, one of the largest homebuilders in the United States. Miller also serves as president of Lennar Corporation and is a member of the company's board of directors. He joined Lennar more than four decades ago, holding various leadership roles across its Homebuilding Division and former Investment and Commercial Properties Division. Miller earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a law degree from the University of Miami. He began his career at Lennar working on the lawn crew at age 12, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the business before assuming executive responsibilities.

From 1991 to October 1997, Miller served as president of both the homebuilding and investment business segments. He became chief executive officer in April 1997 and later assumed the role of executive chairman. During his tenure, Miller led Lennar through a series of acquisitions that contributed to the company's rapid growth and profitability. Under his leadership, Lennar became known for acquiring smaller house-building companies and integrating them as successful branches, enabling significant expansion. The merger with CalAtlantic Group further solidified Lennar's position among the nation's largest homebuilders. Lennar operates in 30 states and 75 markets, generating over $35 billion in annual revenue and ranking among the top companies on the Fortune 500.

Miller's leadership has guided Lennar through some of the most challenging periods in U.S. housing history. During the housing crisis, Miller implemented strategies to reduce leverage, cut costs, and acquire distressed land, positioning Lennar to emerge stronger than many competitors. Throughout his management, Miller emphasized accountability and responsibility among employees and fostered an environment that encouraged creativity and engagement, recognizing the importance of empowered teams to the company's success.

In addition to traditional homebuilding, Miller has advanced technological innovation to address the national housing shortage. Lennar and ICON announced the construction of a 100-home community of 3D-printed homes in Georgetown, Texas, featuring energy-efficient and resilient designs that demonstrate the potential of additive construction. Lessons from this project reduced costs and build times, leading to a second, larger 3D-printed community in Texas. Miller has highlighted the importance of innovation in construction methods to address the country's ongoing housing challenges.

Miller's influence extends beyond Lennar. He is past chairman of both the Joint Center for Housing Studies Policy Advisory Board at Harvard University and the University of Miami Board of Trustees, where he currently serves on the executive committee. Miller has received the James W. McLamore Outstanding Service Award and has served on the boards of Alonzo Mourning Charities and the Overtown Youth Center, and as chairman of the Dolphins Cycling Challenge benefiting the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. With a career spanning more than four decades, Miller is recognized as a key figure in residential real estate, housing policy, and construction innovation.
