Steve Stricker

Steve Stricker is a prominent figure in American professional golf, with a career spanning decades on both the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions. A graduate of the University of Illinois, Stricker earned All-American honors as a member of the Illini golf team. He turned professional and began his career on the Canadian Professional Golf Tour, where he won two tournaments, before joining the PGA Tour. Stricker achieved early success with victories at the Kemper Open and the Motorola Western Open. Over his PGA Tour career, he accumulated 12 victories, including the WGC-Match Play title and two FedEx Cup playoff events.

Stricker's most successful season on tour came at age 42, with three victories and a runner-up finish on the money list. He spent more than 250 weeks in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking, reaching a career-high ranking of No. 2. Stricker became the 10th golfer since World War II to win a tournament three consecutive times, accomplishing this at the John Deere Classic. He was twice named PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year and received the Payne Stewart Award and the Byron Nelson Award. Stricker represented the United States as a five-time member of the Presidents Cup team, serving as team captain, and as a three-time member of the Ryder Cup team, later captaining the U.S. Ryder Cup Team to victory at Whistling Straits.

Following his Ryder Cup captaincy, Stricker faced a significant health challenge, experiencing inflammation around his heart and a mysterious illness that required hospitalization and led to substantial weight loss. Despite this, Stricker returned to competition and secured a major victory on the PGA Tour Champions.

Stricker's transition to the PGA Tour Champions has been marked by continued success, with 18 wins on the senior circuit. In one season, he joined Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Bernhard Langer as the only players to win three senior majors in a season. Stricker was named recipient of the Jack Nicklaus Award as the Champions Tour's Player of the Year and also received the Arnold Palmer Award and Byron Nelson Award, setting records in both categories. His on-course earnings and stroke average set single-season Champions Tour records. Stricker's career in professional golf highlights consistency, resilience, and achievement in both major championships and team competitions.
