Steve Eisman

Steven Eisman is an investment analyst and portfolio manager with more than 20 years of experience in financial markets, banking, and housing finance. He is the podcast host of "The Real Eisman Playbook," and is widely known as the subject of the Academy Award-winning movie, "The Big Short."

Eisman began his career at Oppenheimer & Co., one of Wall Street's largest firms, where he was recognized as an All-Star Analyst by both Institutional Investor and The Wall Street Journal on multiple occasions. He later served as partner and senior portfolio manager at FrontPoint Financial Services Fund, where his analysis of the subprime mortgage market was chronicled in Michael Lewis’s book "The Big Short." The story was adapted into the film "The Big Short," in which Steve Carell portrayed Eisman as a hedge fund manager who, along with a small group of investors, predicted the 2008 financial crisis. The film received five Academy Award nominations and won for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Eisman was a managing director at Neuberger Berman and portfolio manager for the Eisman Group within Neuberger Berman’s Private Asset Management division.

He is frequently featured in financial media and at industry conferences, providing insights on systemic risk, regulatory changes, and the evolving landscape of the financial sector. Eisman draws on his Wall Street experience to explain the causes and consequences of the 2008 financial crisis, the ongoing challenges in the banking and housing markets, and the factors contributing to economic growth in the United States.

Prior to joining Neuberger Berman, Eisman was founder and portfolio manager of Emrys Partners, L.P. He also served as managing director and senior financial services analyst at Chilton Investment Co. and held the same role at Oppenheimer & Co. within the investment bank, asset management, and specialty finance divisions. Eisman holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.
