Stephon Castle

Stephon Castle is a professional basketball player and guard for the San Antonio Spurs, recognized for his impact among young NBA players. Castle emerged on the national stage at the University of Connecticut, where as a freshman, he appeared in 34 games and contributed to the Huskies' 32-2 overall record and the school's second consecutive NCAA Men's Basketball National Championship. His performance at UConn positioned him as a top NBA Draft prospect, and he was selected with the fourth overall pick by the San Antonio Spurs.

During his rookie season, Castle played 80 games, starting in 47, and led all NBA rookies in total points, made field goals, and steals. He participated in the Rising Stars Challenge and Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend, earning the NBA Rising Stars Challenge MVP Award. In 25 games from March to the end of the regular season, Castle averaged 19.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 0.9 steals in 30.2 minutes per game. A global media panel selected Castle as the Kia Rookie of the Year after he received 92 first-place votes, totaling 482 points.

Castle became the fourth Spur to win the Rookie of the Year Award, joining Victor Wembanyama, Tim Duncan, and David Robinson. San Antonio became the fifth team in NBA history and the second team in the past 50 years to feature back-to-back Rookie of the Year winners. Castle is also the first player from University of Connecticut to win Rookie of the Year since Emeka Okafor. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

In his sophomore season, Castle recorded a career-high 40 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists on 15-of-19 shooting in one game, becoming only the second player in Spurs franchise history after David Robinson to achieve a 40-point triple-double. He and Victor Wembanyama became the first pair of teammates in Spurs history to record triple-doubles in the same game, and Castle became one of only two players in San Antonio Spurs history to record multiple triple-doubles with at least 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists before turning 22. His continued development contributed to the Spurs' appearance in the NBA Finals. At 21 years old, Castle has established himself among the league's leading young basketball talents.
