Stephen Ubl

Stephen Ubl is president and chief executive officer of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), an organization representing leading biopharmaceutical research companies in the United States.

Ubl oversees PhRMA's efforts to support a healthcare and economic environment that fosters medical innovation, drug discovery, and access to medicines. His work emphasizes pharmaceutical policy, drug pricing, and patient access to treatments.

Before joining PhRMA, Ubl served as president and CEO of the medical technology association AdvaMed. At AdvaMed, Ubl facilitated reforms related to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration product review process and Medicare coverage and reimbursement for medical technologies. He led industry advocacy efforts supporting research and development and played a role in delaying a device tax affecting medical technology innovation. Ubl was recognized by industry publications for his impact on the medical technology sector.

Ubl has collaborated with patient advocacy organizations in health policy, including service on the board of the National Health Council and involvement with JDRF. His work has focused on advancing patient access, healthcare policy, and collaboration between industry and advocacy groups.

He has been named to Modern Healthcare's "100 Most Influential People in Healthcare" and recognized as a Top Lobbyist by The Hill, as well as a top health influencer by Medical Marketing & Media and PR Week.

Prior to his tenure at AdvaMed, Ubl was vice president of legislation for the Federation of American Hospitals. He began his career in Washington on Capitol Hill.
