Stephen Balaban is the co-founder and CTO of Lambda, a leading AI infrastructure company providing the GPU computing, cloud services and large-scale systems needed to train and deploy artificial-intelligence models. He co-founded Lambda with his brother in 2012 after working as the first engineering hire at Perceptio, a machine-learning startup acquired by Apple in 2013.
A computer science and economics graduate of the University of Michigan, Balaban served as Lambda's CEO for more than a decade, guiding the company from a small AI hardware startup into a major provider of GPU infrastructure. In 2026, he transitioned to CTO to focus on Lambda's technology and long-term vision as the company expands into gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure.
