Stacy Simpson

Stacy Simpson is Chief Marketing Officer of athenahealth, where she leads the company’s global marketing and communications strategy, including brand, media, demand generation, advertising, content, segment marketing, and research and editorial strategy. She joined athenahealth in 2022 and has played a key role in shaping the company’s brand and its story around simplifying healthcare through technology.

Simpson is a veteran technology and communications executive with more than 25 years of experience building brands and driving growth across technology, healthcare, media, and professional services. Before athenahealth, she was Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Corporate Responsibility, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Genpact. She previously served as Global Head of Marketing and Communications at Publicis Sapient and held senior communications and brand-marketing roles at IAC/INTERACTIVECORP, where she worked across the company’s portfolio of more than 100 consumer internet and media brands.

At athenahealth, Simpson has also emerged as a voice on the responsible use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. She advocates for using AI to reduce administrative complexity and give physicians more time to focus on patients, while emphasizing the importance of trust, privacy, human judgment, and practical applications over technology hype. She is a contributor to Fast Company on healthcare, AI, branding, and technology.

Simpson is co-chair of the athenaInstitute, athenahealth’s research and thought-leadership initiative, which brings together research, data, clinical expertise, and industry perspectives to examine the forces shaping healthcare.

A graduate of Syracuse University, Simpson holds bachelor’s degrees in broadcast journalism and public policy. In 2026, she was named one of Becker’s Healthcare’s 170 Women in Health IT to Know and was selected to chair the Boston Go Red for Women campaign of the American Heart Association.
